جنگ جهانی اول به تازگی تمام شده. دختر جوانی در یک روستای کوچک در کشور آلمان در عزای کشته شدن نامزدش (فرانتس) در جنگ است. او هر روز به قبرستان می‌رود و بر سنگ قبر عشقش گل می‌گذارد. بعد چندی متوجه می‌شود یک مرد جوانِ فرانسوی هم به قبرستان می‌آید و روی مزار پسر گل می‌گذارد. دختر می‌خواهد بداند این مرد جوان کیست و نامزدش را از کجا می‌شناسد.

این موقعیت داستانی جذاب، مخاطب را مشتاقِ پی‌گیری قصه‌ می‌کند. فیلمی با یک جنگ فاجعه‌بار، عاشقانه‌ای پرشور با مر…گی دردناک، و قصه‌ای با سرک کشیدن به پاریس آن روزها و رفت و آمد بین دو کشور متخاصم آلمان و فرانسه و حاشیه‌ای درباره یک تابلوی نقاشی از مانه در موزه لوور در قالبی سیاه و سفید که گه‌گاه رنگی می‌شود.

افسوس که فرانسوا اوزون در فرانتس در حد فیلم‌های متوسطِ کارنامه‌اش هم قصه‌گوی خوبی نیست. با چنین ملاط و مصالحی می‌شد بنای داستانیِ زیبایی ساخت و تماشاگر را مهمان آن کرد. فرانتس پر از آدم‌های بی‌رمقی است که نحیف‌تر از آ‌نند که برای محبوبِ رفته بلد باشند سوگواری کنند و کم‌مایه‌تر از آنند که در پیِ شور عاشقانه‌ی دیگری باشند. این گونه است که درام در فرانتس از شخصیت‌ها جلو می‌افتد و تماشاگر صرفن اوج و فرود داستانی می‌بیند بدون آن‌که پرپر زدن برای عزیزِ از دست رفته را حس کند و بدون آن‌که جوانه عشقِ بعدِ سوگواری را تجربه کند.

در چنین فیلم‌های تاریخی، بیننده بیش از هر چیز دوست دارد که فضاهای بیرونی شهرها و روستاها را ببیند و قصه را در پس‌زمینه آن‌ها احساس کند، مثل تجربه خیابان‌های پاریسِ سال 1919، تجربه یک روستای کوچکِ وقتی اروپا در سوگورایِ یک جنون تاریخی است و در تبِ فاجعه‌ای بزرگتر می‌سوزد. چیزهای ساده اما دیریابی که در فرانتس نیست.

این روزها فرانسوی‌ها در گیجیِ انتخاب فیلمی برای معرفی به آکادمی اسکار حیرانند، در سالی که سینمای فرانسه برهوت است و ظاهرن کمیته‌ انتخاب (تیری فرِمو [دبیر جشنواره کن]، ساندرین بونِر [بازیگر فیلم‌های موریس پیالا]، لئا سیدو [بازیگر آبی گرم‌ترین رنگ است] و …) دلش با همین فرانتس (و البته او ساخته پل ورهوفن) است. هیچ‌وقت اهمیت فرانسوا اوزون (این فیلم‌ساز متوسطِ همه‌جا حاضر) را نفهمیده بودم، این بار هم.
